To be fair, I did successfully run Linux for a month but the hardware was too slow.

User 602ca8

Here's a question... How much overhead does a linux window manager add to make it a bit more friendly?
Just remembered another reason, remote access. Ostracise me if you must but RDP > VNC any day!

As long as the selfie stick works and they have a platform it all good
User 602ca8
And the new generations will only know how to turn on tiktok, facebook and instagram
User 602ca8
So that's why windows can do this
User 602ca8
let alone use linux
User 602ca8
I mean where I work people can't even copy a file sometimes
User 602ca8
Well on the other hand windows is user friendly
User bddf69
Yeah this is just consumer pricing :p I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw how much we pay for Windows at $dayjob
User 602ca8
257 euros i pay them for my car loan
User 602ca8
I never believed people pay that much
User 602ca8
Well i don't spend anything near that amount. I think my expenses are around 10 euros per month ๐
User bddf69
Not to mention the waste on your wallet!
User 602ca8
I use both, the waste windows has on cpu and ram is extraordinary
User 602ca8
Linux will always be the best for any kind of hosting
User 2fc02a
$63 is the cost of Windows server because it's 15 GB of memory.
User bddf69
Where do you see that? :O Storage is way cheaper than that
User 2fc02a
I could send them a M.2 for $63 with 1tb of storage
User 2fc02a
Yeah but $63 a month for 15gb of storage? Hetzner outta control with that!

User bddf69
Tldr, daddy M$oft needs money :p
User 2fc02a
Not sure but Hetzner charges $63 a month to have Windows server.
User 2fc02a
I don't get a choice. I host where I host because I'm not home to restart it if it goes down.
And switching to Linux to run commands is very different thank switching a server with 400+ people connecting a week and over 120 mods.
If one letter isn't capitalized... Server save can be corrupted.

but I decided I didn't want the stress of learning linux added to being an admin/mod. Both are labours of love but the more labour there is, the less love there is! ๐
User a827fb
I gave it serious consideration when we upgraded our dedi a while back!

User 602ca8
I understand a one time set up fee
User 963f55
Microsoft's Response:
User 602ca8
Why does windows cost 63 a month?
User 69dd72
I think you all need to switch to Linux . If limon can do it.. :p
User 69dd72
That's why I wanted to start the discussion regarding hosts. :))

I'm sorry for your loss Catalysm, Prisma was a great partner to have. Hoping you'd get more great partners and that he may turn around when he cools off.
User 4fc8a2
Noooo ๐
User bddf69
We deleted the messages to reduce drama
User 4fc8a2
Where can I find Prisma's reason for the US citizen boycott? ๐
Very curious now lol

You silly sausage! Mad is Mad. I'm Trevor!
User 602ca8
You guys are MAD !
User 2fc02a
Also just having windows costs another $63 a month pushing it really close to the US price
User a827fb
When I win the lotto I'll upgrade us, of course ๐ Any day now...
User a827fb
So as much as I'd like the better CPU, for small benefit and potential cost, and the fuss of setting everything up on new hardware... meh. Too much trouble!
